Game rules for Red Dog

Overview

Played around a special table, similar to a blackjack table, the game of Red Dog is popular both online and off, and is considered an exciting card game of chance. Red Dog, also known as Yablon and Red Dog Poker, is played with a standard deck of 52 cards and the cards are shuffled after each round.

The Objective of Red Dog

The objective of the game is for the player to predict whether the value of a card will fall between the two cards drawn beforehand by the dealer.

Card Values in Red Dog

All cards from two to ten have their own face value. An Ace counts as 14, a King as 13, a Queen as 12 and a Jack as 11.

How to Play Red Dog

The player makes an ante bet before the game commences.

The dealer draws two cards and places them face up on the Red Dog table.

The ‘spread’ is demarcated on the table to show how many points appear between the two initial cards drawn by the dealer.

A Pair Hand: If the dealer draws two cards of the same value, a third is automatically drawn. If that card is also of the same value, players are paid out 11:1. A value different to the first two cards results in a ‘push’ and the ante is returned to the player.

A Consecutive Hand: If the two dealer cards are consecutive, a third hand will not be drawn and is simply considered a push and the original ante is returned to the player.

A Non Consecutive Hand: Any hand that is not a Pair Hand or a Consecutive Hand is considered a Non Consecutive Hand. When this hand is drawn, the dealer will announce the spread. The spread is determined according to the value between the two points between the first two cards drawn. So, for example, if the dealer draws a three and a queen, the spread will be 8, because there are eight values between the two cards.

Players now have the option of raising their original bet with an amount equal to the ante.

If the third card drawn falls within the spread, the player wins.

If the third card drawn is the same to either of the first two, the player loses.

There is no push in Non Consecutive Hands.

Payouts in Red Dog

On a spread of one, the player is paid out 5:1

On a spread of two, the player is paid out 4:1

On a spread of three, the player is paid out 2:1

On a spread of four to eleven, the player is paid out 1:1
